| Kevan ‘Scruffmouth’ Cameron
is a writer, poet and performer based out of
the concrete rainforest of the lower mainland.
He is a 2-time veteran of the Vancouver Poetry
Slam team (‘07, ‘08) and the host of the monthly
Art of Words Poetry Jam series. This SFU alumnus
has been published in We Have A Voice: African
& Caribbean Student Writing and Blood
Ink: A University of Alberta Literary Journal.
As a performer, Scruffmouth has featured as
a spoken poet in film and television, including
Fallen (2007, ABC Family); Love
Happens (2008, Universal) and the independent
short film Food for Thought (2008,
Black Sunrise Pictures). Kevan Cameron is currently
the creative director for the Black Dot Roots
& Culture Collective, a group of artists
and professionals dedicated to the education,
creation and celebration of the Black experience
at home and abroad through the art of storytelling
and the act of connecting the dots of the community.
He has self-published 3 chapbooks: The Seventh
Sense (2007), P.A.I.D. (2008),
and Choose Your Revolution (2008).
His new chapbook, New Word Order (2010)
is a literary manifesto inspired by dub poetry,
hip-hop and “the message is the music.”
