Steve Miller

Steve Miller has been performing since before he can remember.  At 5 years old he was awarded best story teller from a local boy scouts troup visiting his parents trail ride operation in Alberta.  He grew up in music and theatre, performing everywhere and anywhere all the while keeping his writing to himself.  The two came together in the form of Spoken Word in May 2008.  Taking 3rd place at his first slam in Calgary he fell in love.  In the summer of 2008 he moved to Vancouver to immerse himself into the scene.  In his first year he won 4 slams and the 2009 semi-finals, taking fifth place at finals.  As the 2009 VanSlam alternate he was able to attend and perform at NPS in West Palm Beach, Florida, CFSW in Victoria, and IWPS in Berkely, California.  He won the 2009 Vancouver  Story Slam Semi-Finals and took 4th in the finals.  In 2010 he self published his first book, Naked Poetry.  He is a member of the 2010 CFSW wild card team who made it all the way to semi finals.  He has toured with Johnny MacRae as “The Wet Coast Poets”, performing in Ottawa, Halifax, St. Johns, London and Toronto.  He’s performed at festivals, weddings, funerals and slammed more times than he can count.  In 2009 he poetry busked on Commercial Drive every day for three months.  He’s performed on streets, buses, subways, and anywhere people would listen.  A self –identified cowboy-queer, carpenter poet, he brings a rollercoaster horseback trail ride of emotions to the stage, shifting seamlessly between light and dark matter, often with the same poem and sometimes naked.  Steve Miller crosses boundaries with comfort and ease inviting audiences to do the same.

Blackberry Sundae

being with you is like
the explosive moments
in every bite of a blackberry sundae
after a fun day of
gittin dirty
thirty or forty times at least

a giant feast of puuure pleasure
in a cleeear little plastic bowl
sooo much goodness and soul
fulfilling satisfaction
packed into one brief
moment

time spent
so passionately
so definitely
for a reason

reasons like seasons
and even though seasons seem to end as soon as they come
that’s ok cause
I remember the time we
and that other time we
and…that…other…time…we
ooohhh
time

remember the time
I remember that time flies when you’re having fun
from dawn to dusk to sweet sunrise all over again
cause the skies were only sorta  blue
when you rolled through my horizon
and wow did the flies on those walls get a show and

that makes sense
to me
cause I have pretty good
conversations with me myself
and you
conversations that aren’t meant to go anywhere
but go everywhere
that needs to be
truthfully
openly
being that being
that
reminds us to believe
In ourselves

rescuing each other from
ex-lover
personal hells
without screaming for HELP
redeeming the light inside us
floating goals to the surface
we didn’t even know were wading for us

stating the obvious isn’t always easy
when we see
what needs to be
what is
a friendship
on fire nights so hot
we forgot what difference naughty or nice make

taking chances on romances is always a risk
worth the stakes that carry us to those heights
so high we forget about when summer ends comes the fall
season bringing new colors, new weather, new nights
leading to winter flights, weekend delights, and
one last bite
of that delicious blackberry sundae
forever playing explosive waves on every bud of my tongue

reminding me of the one and only beautiful you
that you are, you

although far from each other
spring time lover
a room in my heart will always be yours
blackberry painted walls
surrounding  a crystal clear bowl
with two spoons
