The Golden Beret Award

The Calgary Spoken Word Festival is thrilled to present the sixth annual soon-to-be-prestigious Golden Beret Award as part of the 2012 Festival in April. The Golden Beret Award will be given to a Canadian Spoken Word artist who has made a substantial contribution to the development of the discipline, through their own writing/performance works, and their involvement in the community-at-large.

The Golden Beret Award is presented to a Canadian Spoken Word artist who has made significant, lifelong contributions both to the Spoken Word genre and to the growth & development of their communities. The jury evaluated candidates based on the originality of creative process, mastery of genre (in writing & performance), innovation, use of technologies, and contributions to community.
