Call for Nominations FEBRUARY 15, 2012 DEADLINE!
The Calgary Spoken Word Festival is thrilled to present the sixth annual soon-to-be-prestigious Golden Beret Award as part of the 2012 Festival in April. The Golden Beret Award will be given to a Canadian Spoken Word artist who has made a substantial contribution to the development of the discipline, through their own writing/performance works, and their involvement in the community-at-large. The selection committee will evaluate candidates based on the following qualities: originality of creative process, mastery of the genre, innovation, quality of writing, use of new technologies, contribution to community, and openness to diverse voices. 2012 Festival Passes

This is the Go-To resource for Spoken Word Poetry We have invited 20 professional spoken word artists (among the top in the genre) to submit 3 interactive exercises intended to explore specific facets of spoken word. These exercises will address 1) history 2) writing & 3) performance – and will lead the reader/participants on a creative journey of discovery. Learn from them as you learn more about yourself.
